Who actually runs Europe’s ETFs? The three biggest, by the numbers
More than 100 companies offer ETFs in Europe. Three of them manage well over half the money. Here is who they are, as of the end…
By the end of 2025, the total amount of money invested in European ETFs reached an all-time high of $3.22 trillion, according to the independent research firm ETFGI. That is up from $1.82 trillion just two years earlier, at the end of 2023.
Two things happened together. Existing investments grew in value as markets moved, and a record $396.84 billion of new money flowed into European ETFs during 2025 alone — more than in any earlier year ETFGI has tracked.
Mostly that more people are choosing ETFs as one of the ways they invest — not that any particular fund is a good pick. A bigger, more competitive industry usually means more choice and funds that are cheaper to run, but it says nothing about how any one fund will do from here.
ETFGI reported these figures for the period ending December 2025, published in January 2026. We will keep half an eye on where the trend goes next.
This is background on the industry as a whole, not advice about what to buy — the right mix of funds still depends on your own goals. This is education, not advice.
