What this fund is

AMUNDI PHYSICAL GOLD ETC (C) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from Amundi, traded under the ticker GLDA (ISIN FR0013416716). One trade buys a whole basket of holdings, so your money is spread out instead of riding on a single company. In plain terms it is about tracking physical commodities like gold or oil, which often move differently from shares and are used to spread risk or hedge inflation, spread across its target market. Rather than a manager picking stocks, it simply replicates the LMBA Gold Price PM USD index — the passive, low-cost approach.

It is typically held as a diversifier — a slice that behaves differently from mainstream shares — rather than as a portfolio's main engine. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.12% a year — about €12 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. It is an accumulating share class: dividends are rolled straight back in, compounding your returns rather than landing in your account as cash. It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in France and trades in USD.

Its price has swung about 24.3% over the past year — a gauge of how much the value moves, not a judgement of quality. It launched in 2019. Like any investment, it can lose value as well as gain, and what it did before does not predict what it will do next. (Fund data sourced from Amundi.)

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
