What this fund is

iShares Essential Metals Producers UCITS ETF is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from iShares, traded under the ticker METG (ISIN IE000ROSD5J6). One trade buys a whole basket of holdings, so your money is spread out instead of riding on a single company. In plain terms it is about tracking physical commodities like gold or oil, which often move differently from shares and are used to spread risk or hedge inflation, spread across its target market. Its largest holdings include ANGLO AMERICAN PLC, FREEPORT MCMORAN INC and SOUTHERN COPPER CORP. With about 101 holdings (the ten largest ≈ 39.4%), your money is diversified rather than concentrated in a handful of names.

Geographically it leans ~18% Australia, ~15.7% Canada and ~14.1% United States. By industry it concentrates most in ~99.1% Materials and ~0.5% Other. It is typically held as a diversifier — a slice that behaves differently from mainstream shares — rather than as a portfolio's main engine. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.55% a year — about €55 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. It is an accumulating share class: dividends are rolled straight back in, compounding your returns rather than landing in your account as cash.

It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Ireland and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in USD. Its price has swung about 36.2% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2023. As with any investment, its value can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future results. (Fund data sourced from iShares.)

What your money could grow into

Pick a monthly amount and a number of years to see how regular investing can add up over time. These are your own assumptions — an illustration, not a prediction.

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
