What this fund is

State Street® SPDR® Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bond UCITS ETF (Dist) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from SPDR, traded under the ticker GLAG (ISIN IE00B43QJJ40). It lets you buy a basket of holdings in a single trade, spreading your money across them rather than one company. In plain terms it is about lending to governments and companies in return for regular interest, which tends to be steadier than shares but grows more slowly, spread broadly across markets worldwide. It passively tracks the Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bond Index index — mirroring that market instead of paying a manager to pick winners, which keeps costs low, and its largest holdings include TREASURY BILL 0 07/23/2026, US TREASURY N/B 4.25 08/15/2035 and US TREASURY N/B 4.125 02/15/2036. Spread across roughly 10806 holdings (the ten largest ≈ 2.4%), no one position makes or breaks the fund.

By geography it is weighted towards ~43.9% United States, ~10.5% China and ~7.3% Japan. Its heaviest sectors are ~65.3% Government and ~8.7% Financials. Funds like this are often used as the steadier, lower-swing part of a portfolio — the ballast that cushions the ups and downs of shares. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.1% a year — about €10 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. It is a distributing share class — dividends are paid to you as cash rather than reinvested, and over the last year it paid out roughly 3.2% (its trailing yield).

It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Ireland and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in USD. Its price has swung about 4% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2018. As with any investment, its value can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future results. (Fund data sourced from SPDR.)

What your money could grow into

Pick a monthly amount and a number of years to see how regular investing can add up over time. These are your own assumptions — an illustration, not a prediction.

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
