What this fund is

iShares S&P 500 Utilities Sector UCITS ETF is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from iShares, traded under the ticker IUUS (ISIN IE00B4KBBD01). In a single purchase you get a diversified basket of holdings rather than a stake in just one business. At its core it is a focused, thematic fund: it concentrates on the utilities part of the market, so it lives or dies by that one area rather than the economy as a whole. Underneath, it is about owning small slices of companies, so you share in their growth when they do well — and their falls when they don't. It follows the S&P 500 index (passive investing): it tracks the market rather than relying on a manager, keeping running costs down, and its largest holdings include NEXTERA ENERGY INC, SOUTHERN and DUKE ENERGY CORP.

It holds around 36 positions (the ten largest ≈ 57.4%), spreading risk so no single holding decides your outcome. Geographically it leans ~100% United States. By industry it concentrates most in ~99.7% Utilities and ~0.2% Other. A focused fund like this is typically held as a smaller 'satellite' position around a broader core — a way to lean into one theme, not usually a portfolio's only holding. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.15% a year — about €15 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund.

It is an accumulating share class: dividends are rolled straight back in, compounding your returns rather than landing in your account as cash. It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Ireland and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in USD. Its price has swung about 21.4% over the past year — a gauge of how much the value moves, not a judgement of quality. It launched in 2017. As with any investment, its value can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future results. (Fund data sourced from iShares.)

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
