What this fund is

iShares Global High Yield Corp Bond GBP Hedged UCITS ETF (Dist) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from iShares, traded under the ticker GHYS (ISIN IE00B8KQFS66). It lets you buy a basket of holdings in a single trade, spreading your money across them rather than one company. In plain terms it is about lending to governments and companies in return for regular interest, which tends to be steadier than shares but grows more slowly, spread broadly across markets worldwide. Its largest holdings include USD CASH, EUR CASH and MERIDIAN ARC HOLDCO LLC 144A. It holds around 1772 positions (the ten largest ≈ 3.6%), spreading risk so no single holding decides your outcome.

Its biggest country exposures are ~59.4% United States, ~7.6% United Kingdom and ~7.1% France. By industry it concentrates most in ~19.3% Consumer Discretionary and ~16.6% Communication Services. Funds like this are often used as the steadier, lower-swing part of a portfolio — the ballast that cushions the ups and downs of shares. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.55% a year — about €55 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. Income such as dividends is paid out to you as cash (a distributing share class), and over the last year it paid out roughly 8.64% (its trailing yield).

It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Ireland and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors, trades in GBP and is currency-hedged against exchange-rate swings. Its price has swung about 4.9% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2013. Like any investment, it can lose value as well as gain, and what it did before does not predict what it will do next. (Fund data sourced from iShares.)

What your money could grow into

Pick a monthly amount and a number of years to see how regular investing can add up over time. These are your own assumptions — an illustration, not a prediction.

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
