What this fund is

State Street® SPDR® FTSE UK All Share UCITS ETF (Dist) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from SPDR, traded under the ticker FTAD (ISIN IE00BD5FCF91). In a single purchase you get a diversified basket of holdings rather than a stake in just one business. In plain terms it is about owning small slices of companies, so you share in their growth when they do well — and their falls when they don't, spread broadly across markets worldwide. It passively tracks the FTSE All-Share Index index — mirroring that market instead of paying a manager to pick winners, which keeps costs low, and its largest holdings include HSBC Holdings Plc, AstraZeneca PLC and Shell Plc. Spread across roughly 512 holdings (the ten largest ≈ 43.1%), no one position makes or breaks the fund.

By geography it is weighted towards ~94.8% United Kingdom, ~2.6% Jersey and ~0.8% Guernsey. By industry it concentrates most in ~27.3% Financials and ~13.8% Industrials. It is commonly used to tilt a portfolio towards one market, usually alongside broader, more global funds rather than on its own. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.2% a year — about €20 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. Income such as dividends is paid out to you as cash (a distributing share class), and over the last year it paid out roughly 3.72% (its trailing yield).

It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Ireland and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in USD. Its price has swung about 11.2% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2018. As with any investment, its value can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future results. (Fund data sourced from SPDR.)

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
