What this fund is

iShares MSCI World Consumer Staples Sector Advanced UCITS ETF is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from iShares, traded under the ticker WCSS (ISIN IE00BJ5JP329). One trade buys a whole basket of holdings, so your money is spread out instead of riding on a single company. At its core it is a focused, thematic fund: it concentrates on the consumer staples part of the market, so it lives or dies by that one area rather than the economy as a whole. Underneath, it is about owning small slices of companies, so you share in their growth when they do well — and their falls when they don't. It follows the MSCI World index (passive investing): it tracks the market rather than relying on a manager, keeping running costs down, and its largest holdings include COSTCO WHOLESALE CORP, COCA-COLA and NESTLE SA.

With about 97 holdings (the ten largest ≈ 53.8%), your money is diversified rather than concentrated in a handful of names. By geography it is weighted towards ~51.3% United States, ~16.9% United Kingdom and ~9.2% France. By industry it concentrates most in ~99.6% Consumer Staples and ~0.4% Other. A focused fund like this is typically held as a smaller 'satellite' position around a broader core — a way to lean into one theme, not usually a portfolio's only holding. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.18% a year — about €18 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund.

It is a distributing share class — dividends are paid to you as cash rather than reinvested, and over the last year it paid out roughly 2.62% (its trailing yield). It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Ireland and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in USD. Its price has swung about 12.7% over the past year — a gauge of how much the value moves, not a judgement of quality. It launched in 2019. Like any investment, it can lose value as well as gain, and what it did before does not predict what it will do next. (Fund data sourced from iShares.)

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
