iShares $ Treasury Bond UCITS ETF

iShares · IE00BKTN1T54

iShares $ Treasury Bond UCITS ETF is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from iShares, traded under the ticker GOVP (ISIN IE00BKTN1T54). One trade buys a whole basket of holdings, so your money is spread out instead of riding on a single company. In plain terms it is about lending to governments and companies in return for regular interest, which tends to be steadier than shares but grows more slowly, spread across its target market. Its largest holdings include TREASURY NOTE, TREASURY NOTE and TREASURY NOTE. Spread across roughly 299 holdings (the ten largest ≈ 8.4%), no one position makes or breaks the fund. Its biggest country exposures are ~99.9% United States, ~0.1% Ireland and ~0% United Kingdom. By industry it concentrates most in ~99.8% Government and ~0.1% Other. Funds like this are often used as the steadier, lower-swing part of a portfolio — the ballast that cushions the ups and downs of shares. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.1% a year — about €10 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. Income such as dividends is paid out to you as cash (a distributing share class), and over the last year it paid out roughly 1.98% (its trailing yield). It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Ireland and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in GBP. On the standard KID risk scale it is rated 4 out of 7 and its price has swung about 3.8% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2019, and its KID suggests a holding period of medium to long term. As with any investment, its value can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future results. About this fund

What you own

By holding it, this fund gives you a stake in around 299 companies across Other in a single purchase.

Dividends

The fund pays dividends out to you as cash, usually a few times a year.

You get the dividends as cash you can spend or move elsewhere, which some people like for a sense of income. If you would rather it compounded, you buy more units yourself — it will not reinvest on its own the way an accumulating version does. The same fund is often sold in both versions; what it holds underneath is identical.

How it works

The fund actually buys every share in the index it tracks (full replication).

Owning every holding keeps things transparent — what is in the index is what the fund actually owns. It can be a touch costlier to run for indexes with thousands of tiny positions, since the fund has to buy and maintain them all. There is no swap bank involved, so there is no extra “what if the partner fails” question to weigh.

Cost

0.10%Yearly fee (TER)
0.10%All-in cost

The yearly running cost of the fund, shown as a % of your money. €0.20 per €100 a year at 0.20%. Lower is cheaper.

It is skimmed quietly from inside the fund a little each day, so you never get a bill — but it drags on your return every year you hold. On a broad index ETF it is usually a small fraction of a percent; the gap between a cheap and a pricey fund looks tiny on day one but compounds over decades, which is why it is worth a glance.
