What this fund is

iShares US Mortgage Backed Securities UCITS ETF is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from iShares, traded under the ticker IMBS (ISIN IE00BZ6V7883). One trade buys a whole basket of holdings, so your money is spread out instead of riding on a single company. At its core it is a focused, thematic fund: it concentrates on the securitized part of the market, so it lives or dies by that one area rather than the economy as a whole. Underneath, it is about owning small slices of companies, so you share in their growth when they do well — and their falls when they don't. Its largest holdings include FHLMC 30YR UMBS, BLK ICS USD LEAF AGENCY DIST and FNMA 30YR UMBS.

Spread across roughly 602 holdings (the ten largest ≈ 35.2%), no one position makes or breaks the fund. By geography it is weighted towards ~99.4% United States, ~6.9% Ireland and ~0.1% European Union. Its heaviest sectors are ~99.4% Securitized and ~7% Other. A focused fund like this is typically held as a smaller 'satellite' position around a broader core — a way to lean into one theme, not usually a portfolio's only holding. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.28% a year — about €28 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund.

Income such as dividends is paid out to you as cash (a distributing share class), and over the last year it paid out roughly 3.84% (its trailing yield). It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Ireland and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in USD. Its price has swung about 6.3% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2016. As with any investment, its value can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future results. (Fund data sourced from iShares.)

What your money could grow into

Pick a monthly amount and a number of years to see how regular investing can add up over time. These are your own assumptions — an illustration, not a prediction.

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
