What this fund is

UBS Core MSCI Japan UCITS ETF JPY dis is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from UBS, traded under the ticker UB02 (ISIN LU0136240974). It lets you buy a basket of holdings in a single trade, spreading your money across them rather than one company. In plain terms it is about owning small slices of companies, so you share in their growth when they do well — and their falls when they don't, spread across its target market. Rather than a manager picking stocks, it simply replicates the MSCI Japan index — the passive, low-cost approach, and its largest holdings include MITSUBISHI UFJ FINANCIAL GRO, TOKYO ELECTRON LTD and TOYOTA MOTOR CORP. Its biggest country exposures are ~29.1% Japan.

By industry it concentrates most in ~9.5% Financials and ~8.7% Technology. Funds like this are commonly chosen by investors who want a regular cash income stream rather than reinvesting everything for growth. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.12% a year — about €12 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. It is a distributing share class — dividends are paid to you as cash rather than reinvested. It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Luxembourg and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in JPY.

Its price has swung about 18.6% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2001. As with any investment, its value can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future results. (Fund data sourced from UBS.)

What your money could grow into

Pick a monthly amount and a number of years to see how regular investing can add up over time. These are your own assumptions — an illustration, not a prediction.

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
