Xtrackers S&P Asx 200 UCITS ETF 1D

Xtrackers · LU0328474803

Xtrackers S&P Asx 200 UCITS ETF 1D is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from Xtrackers, traded under the ticker XAUS (ISIN LU0328474803). One trade buys a whole basket of holdings, so your money is spread out instead of riding on a single company. In plain terms it is about owning small slices of companies, so you share in their growth when they do well — and their falls when they don't, spread across its target market. It follows the S&P/ASX 200 TR index (passive investing): it tracks the market rather than relying on a manager, keeping running costs down, and its largest holdings include BHP GROUP LTD, COMMONWEALTH BANK OF AUSTRALIA and WESTPAC BANKING CORPORATION CORP. Spread across roughly 207 holdings (the ten largest ≈ 48.3%), no one position makes or breaks the fund. Its biggest country exposures are ~98.5% Australia and ~1.3% New Zealand. By industry it concentrates most in ~32.7% Financials and ~24.9% Materials. It is commonly used to tilt a portfolio towards one market, usually alongside broader, more global funds rather than on its own. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.5% a year — about €50 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. Income such as dividends is paid out to you as cash (a distributing share class). It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Luxembourg and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in AUD. On the standard KID risk scale it is rated 5 out of 7 and its price has swung about 13.9% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2008. Like any investment, it can lose value as well as gain, and what it did before does not predict what it will do next. (Fund data sourced from Xtrackers.)

About this fund

What you own

The S&P/ASX 200 TR index is the benchmark this fund aims to copy. By holding it, this fund gives you a stake in around 207 companies across Other in a single purchase.

Dividends

The fund pays dividends out to you as cash, usually a few times a year.

You get the dividends as cash you can spend or move elsewhere, which some people like for a sense of income. If you would rather it compounded, you buy more units yourself — it will not reinvest on its own the way an accumulating version does. The same fund is often sold in both versions; what it holds underneath is identical.

How it works

The fund actually buys every share in the index it tracks (full replication).

Owning every holding keeps things transparent — what is in the index is what the fund actually owns. It can be a touch costlier to run for indexes with thousands of tiny positions, since the fund has to buy and maintain them all. There is no swap bank involved, so there is no extra “what if the partner fails” question to weigh.

Cost

0.50%Yearly fee (TER)
0.50%All-in cost

The yearly running cost of the fund, shown as a % of your money. €0.20 per €100 a year at 0.20%. Lower is cheaper.

It is skimmed quietly from inside the fund a little each day, so you never get a bill — but it drags on your return every year you hold. On a broad index ETF it is usually a small fraction of a percent; the gap between a cheap and a pricey fund looks tiny on day one but compounds over decades, which is why it is worth a glance.
