What this fund is

UBS MSCI EMU Value UCITS ETF EUR dis is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from UBS, traded under the ticker UB17 (ISIN LU0446734369). It lets you buy a basket of holdings in a single trade, spreading your money across them rather than one company. In plain terms it is about owning small slices of companies, so you share in their growth when they do well — and their falls when they don't, spread across its target market. It follows the MSCI EMU Value index (passive investing): it tracks the market rather than relying on a manager, keeping running costs down, and its largest holdings include ALLIANZ SE-REG, SIEMENS AG-REG and IBERDROLA SA. By geography it is weighted towards ~10.8% Spain, ~8.5% Germany and ~6.8% France.

Its heaviest sectors are ~22.7% Financials and ~3.9% Industrials. Funds like this are commonly chosen by investors who want a regular cash income stream rather than reinvesting everything for growth. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.25% a year — about €25 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. Income such as dividends is paid out to you as cash (a distributing share class), and over the last year it paid out roughly 1.26% (its trailing yield). It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in Luxembourg and UCITS-regulated, a European standard built to protect everyday investors and trades in EUR.

Its price has swung about 7.1% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2009. As with any investment, its value can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future results. (Fund data sourced from UBS.)

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
