What this fund is

State Street® SPDR® Bloomberg High Yield Bond ETF is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from SPDR, traded under the ticker JNK (ISIN US78468R6229). In a single purchase you get a diversified basket of holdings rather than a stake in just one business. In plain terms it is about lending to governments and companies in return for regular interest, which tends to be steadier than shares but grows more slowly, spread across its target market. Rather than a manager picking stocks, it simply replicates the Bloomberg High Yield Very Liquid Index index — the passive, low-cost approach, and its largest holdings include SSI US GOV MONEY MARKET CLASS, 1261229 BC LTD SR SECURED 144A 04/32 10 and MERIDIAN ARC HOLDCO LLC SR SECURED 144A 04/31 6.25.

It holds around 1231 positions (the ten largest ≈ 5.4%), spreading risk so no single holding decides your outcome. Funds like this are often used as the steadier, lower-swing part of a portfolio — the ballast that cushions the ups and downs of shares. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.4% a year — about €40 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in the United States and trades in USD.

Its price has swung about 4.2% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2007. Like any investment, it can lose value as well as gain, and what it did before does not predict what it will do next. (Fund data sourced from SPDR.)

What your money could grow into

Pick a monthly amount and a number of years to see how regular investing can add up over time. These are your own assumptions — an illustration, not a prediction.

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
