What this fund is

State Street® Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR® Premium Income ETF is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) from SPDR, traded under the ticker XLSI (ISIN US81369Y7792). In a single purchase you get a diversified basket of holdings rather than a stake in just one business. In plain terms it is about owning small slices of companies, so you share in their growth when they do well — and their falls when they don't, spread across its target market. Rather than a manager picking stocks, it simply replicates the S&P 500 Index index — the passive, low-cost approach, and its largest holdings include STATE STREET CONSUMER STAPLES, SSI US GOV MONEY MARKET CLASS and STATE STREET CONSUMER STAPLES JUL26 84.5 CALL.

It is commonly used to tilt a portfolio towards one market, usually alongside broader, more global funds rather than on its own. Its ongoing charge (TER) is 0.35% a year — about €35 a year on a €10,000 holding, taken automatically from the fund. Income such as dividends is paid out to you as cash (a distributing share class), and over the last year it paid out roughly 12.1% (its trailing yield). It holds the underlying investments directly (physical replication); it is domiciled in the United States and trades in USD.

Its price has swung about 11% over the past year, which describes how much its price tends to move rather than whether it is good. It launched in 2025. Like any investment, it can lose value as well as gain, and what it did before does not predict what it will do next. (Fund data sourced from SPDR.)

What your money could grow into

Pick a monthly amount and a number of years to see how regular investing can add up over time. These are your own assumptions — an illustration, not a prediction.

How this works: an educational scenario, not a forecast. We compound monthly and add your monthly amount each month. “Expected annual return” is your own assumption — pick a cautious one; real markets are bumpy and can fall. “Adjust for inflation” simply restates the result in today’s spending power. The fee figure includes the yearly fund fee (TER) and the growth those fees would otherwise have earned. The fund comparison repeats each fund’s last-12-months return every year — a rough illustration only, which real funds never do. Not advice.
